X-Ray Links Register and Login to Use Online Repository Terms, Conditions and Procedures for Use X-ray Specifications - Attachment A Radiographs - Appendix A and Hong Kong Protocol Appendix B William Inglis & Son Ltd have established radiograph repositories within the sales complexes at Newmarket NSW, and Oaklands Junction Vic. The facilities will be available for use at all major yearling sales for vendors wishing to submit x-rays and/or surgical reports. The use of the repository is voluntary, but if used the minimum required views (34 views) must be submitted. The repository is only to be used in the manner provided in the William Inglis Conditions of Sale. While b oth film and digital x-rays are continuing to be submitted, the repositories at Newmarket and Oaklands will have available lightboxes for film, as well as PCs for viewing digital radiographs from our CentraWeb PACS facility located in Newmarket. Locations Newmarket: south side of the Newmarket stable. Film Radiographs The procedures for submitting film radiographs are set out in the “Terms, Conditions and Procedures for Use”. Digital Radiographs Overview Inglis has implemented a DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) conformant, Internet-based viewing system for digital x-rays designed by CDN Technology Ltd. Image Upload We are not providing a direct upload facility at this stage, due to the size and number of images involved. This will be addressed in the future as the systems and infrastructure evolves. Inglis will upload the exported images to our PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) which stores the uncompressed images in a database allocated for each open sale. These images are then automatically compressed using a DICOM lossless format and uploaded to the CentraWeb service. Viewing System The compressed images are of diagnostic quality suitable for vets trained in radiology, to assess a horse’s suitability for purchase at our sales. The CentraWeb database uses encryption mechanisms to ensure that only registered vets can view images. The compressed images are not able to be saved to a local computer and viewed on a third party DICOM system as the compression algorithm with it’s encryption key are unique to the Inglis system. See the Veterinarian Registration and Login page for more information on the viewing system. DICOM Conformance Statement Inglis has consulted widely and implemented a DICOM Conformance Statement that implements standardised DICOM tags suitable for uniquely identifying each lot in a sale and combining the multiple images (34 views) for each lot. The three tags that are mandatory are: PATIENTID PatientID uses the microchip number (or ASB Life No if not available) to uniquely identify each horse. Patient Name is the Horse’s dam name and year of birth. This is used as a cross check by Inglis staff to ensure that the correct horse is being uploaded to our system Accession Number is the sale code and lot number of the horse (example 08EAY-0001) and allows for the multiple images to be stored against the Patient ID. The other tags identified in our DICOM Conformance Statement are required but their usage is flexible and the DICOM tag mappings are suggested only. We are trying to accommodate the differences in the various commercial x-ray systems. These tags are required so that the information is visible on each image and the viewer has enough detail to ensure that they are looking at the correct horse and body part. Whether the tags require to be embedded in the image as they are exported from the vet's CR or DR system depends on the capabilities of the system and whether the DICOM tags are correctly mapped in accordance with our DICOM Conformance Statement. The Inglis system will overlay the tag information submitted for viewing. However, not all systems export all tags and some systems will require that the tags be embedded, particularly for body part identification. If in doubt submit a sample to us for testing well before the closing date of a sale. Vets will be able to view their own uploads to verify that the images have been exported and uploaded correctly. Multiple Studies for a Horse It is understood that there are times when another study or part study has to be uploaded eg an X-Ray machine loses power or an unsuitable image is redone. The Inglis facility is able to upload multiple episodes or studies for a PatientID. These studies will be merged under the one Patient ID. Viewing Digital X-Rays Only veterinarians registered with Inglis will have access to view digital x-rays. Vets use an online form to register to access the repository. The registration is validated by Inglis staff and requires activation before being able to login to the repository. All viewings are logged in our database, similar to viewings of film radiographs, to enable vendors to produce reports on viewings of their lots. The system implements encryption mechanisms to ensure that only registered vets can view images. The compressed images are not able to be saved to a local computer and viewed on another DICOM system as the compression algorithm and encryption keys are unique to the Inglis system. Vets who have logged into the system via the Repository Login link on the Inglis web site will be able to select from a list of open sales and then display an index of lots that have digital x-rays available. Only lots that are unsold or passed in will be viewable. When selecting a lot the DICOM viewing window will open with the 34 images are displayed by default as thumbnails for individual selection for diagnostic viewing. The viewing software uses Microsoft Windows OCX controls to enable display of the DICOM images. |
